Jason A. Malikow

I am a Ph. D. student in the English Department at Northwestern University.
For the 2007-2008 academic year, I am participating in the Graduate Teaching Certificate Program.

An Americanist, my research is primarily concerned with the rearticulation of politics
in canonical and lesser-read work, narrative theory, and representations of "America."

In my dissertation, "'what America did you have?': Radicalism in 19th and 20th Century Literary
Representations of 'America,'" I read selected work by Allen Ginsberg, Robert Lowell
Ralph Ellison, and Kathy Acker through their rearticulation of the political content
found in Walt Whitman, Herman Melville, and Mark Twain.

My work is informed by critical theory, textual studies and the history of the artifact,
radical political philosophy, and Americana.

My other academic interests include teaching, postmodernism, cyberpunk, representations
of violence and abjection, advertising and marketing, the epic form, horror literature,
film, and music, and the history of literary studies in the United States.
